My.LipgLoSs.BriNgS.aLL.ThE.BoyS.To.ThE.YaRd.....AnD.ThEiR.Like.....WhAts.ThAt.?

Lipgloss is one of us girls guilty pleasures. We all buy more than we need. Even if we have 10 tubes at home or we have enough to supply us a life time, when we are in a beauty store and we see a new lipgloss that catches our eye; we buy it!
Us girls are always slathering something on our pout, but what are you putting on is the question. Gooping on tons of gloss must protect our lips right? I mean it does say it is moisturizing, no? But studies done by many dermatologists have shown that our lip glosses that make us have beautiful and fuller lips are actually harming us!
The shininess of the gloss can actually increase our risk of developing skin cancer on our lips. Basically it's like a magnifying glass under the sun. The slick, shiny nature of the gloss could be making the sun's rays hit us harder, some experts say. “These lip glosses can make more of the light rays penetrate directly through the skin instead of getting reflected off of the skin’s surface,” says Dr. Christine Brown, a dermatologist at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.
As new cases of skin cancer on the lips are raising(about 3,500 per year), many lip gloss junkies are not worried. But these rays can be aggressive on the lips, causing disfigurement and in few cases it can spread to other organs and become deadly. They damage done by the sun can also cause freckling on the lips and premature aging(thinning lips/fine lines).
So what is a girl to do?
I recommend using one of three things:
1. DITCH.Lose the lip glosses and wear a lipstick instead. The lipstick acts as a shield/barrier or sunblock effect.
2. LAYER.Use a lip balm with SPF 30 underneath your gloss
3. COMPROMISE.Use a lip gloss containing an SPF. I suggest any of the Smashbox glosses as they contain sunscreens in them. The lip enhancing glosses contain a SPF 8 to SPF 30(depending on the deepness of colour). Or the new limitless long wear lip gloss from Smashbox which contain a SPF 15.

I always put a moisturizer on under my lipgloss... just to protect my lips.

That's definitely a good thing! It's crazy how easily it is to get skin cancer. Definitely important to protect!
