BeSt.KePt.SecReT.iN.MakeUp.ArtiStry.

One of the best kept secrets of makeup artistry is something we all learned back when we were children: colour correction. Colour correction is basically neutralizing one colour by applying the opposite colour(on the colour wheel). It is all based on the Colour Spectrum or wheel which shows each colour having an opposite colour: Green is opposite of Red and Yellow is opposite of Purple or Blue.
So what does this mean in the world of makeup? Well this is where the artistry comes to play. Instead of applying concealers and layers upon layers of foundation to cover a skin imperfection, you can neutralize  the area first. After neutralizing the area, a light imperfection may not even need any concealing and a darker or more visible imperfection may only need a light layer of foundation or concealer.
Well how do we do it? The first step to colour correction is finding out what type of correction you need. Not all skin imperfections need the same level of correction. A skin imperfection can range from uneven complexion to a dark pigmented scar.
Examples of Light correction: uneven skin tone, dull complexion, little overall redness or sallow skin
Examples of Concealing correction: dark under eye circles, reddish blemishes, scars, birthmarks, bruising, sallow skin, rosacea

Quick Colour Correction and Complimentary Reference Guide

✩☆✩Lilac cuts out excess yellow in the skin and lifts a sallow complexion ✩☆✩
✩☆✩Yellow can reduce redness or purply tones✩☆✩
✩☆✩Blue takes down orangey skin tones and also can correct a bad self tanner application✩☆✩

Tip: - make sure to use a primer under the corrector to allow easy application and so you won't use much product
